The Washington Capitals have landed forward Alex Tuch from the Buffalo Sabres in a blockbuster sign-and-trade deal, per @FriedgeHNIC. The transaction marks the second major addition for Washington in as many days as the club aggressively pursues a return to postseason contention.
As part of the transaction, Tuch has signed a massive eight-year contract extension worth $84 million, carrying an average annual value (AAV) of $10.5 million. The deal includes a full no-movement clause for the first four seasons. In exchange for the 30-year-old winger, the Sabres receive veteran center David Kampf and a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.
Tuch is coming off a stellar 2025-26 campaign in which he recorded 33 goals and 33 assists for 66 points in 79 games. The Syracuse native had been a fan favorite in Buffalo since arriving in the 2021 Jack Eichel trade, but the Sabres have reportedly decided to pivot toward a younger core, recently signing 21-year-old Zach Benson to a seven-year extension. For the Capitals, the addition of Tuch follows their acquisition of high-scoring winger Jordan Kyrou earlier this week, signaling a clear intent to surround their veteran core with elite talent.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
