The Anaheim Ducks have traded defenseman Olen Zellweger to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forward Anton Wahlberg and the No. 45 overall pick in the NHL Draft, according to Pierre LeBrun of TSN.
The deal, finalized during the second day of the NHL Entry Draft, sees the Ducks move one of their top defensive prospects. Zellweger, known for his elite skating and offensive instincts, joins a Buffalo Sabres blue line that continues to accumulate young talent. In exchange, Anaheim acquires Wahlberg, a 2023 second-round selection who has shown promise as a physical, puck-moving forward, along with an additional second-round pick in this year's class.
The move allows the Ducks to further diversify their prospect pool while adding immediate draft capital. For the Sabres, the acquisition of Zellweger addresses a desire for more dynamic playmaking from the back end. Per Pierre LeBrun, the trade has been processed through the league office.
