The Chicago Blackhawks are trading forward Jason Dickinson to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward Andrew Mangiapane and a protected 2027 first-round draft pick, according to Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic.
As part of the transaction, the Blackhawks will retain 50 percent of Dickinson’s remaining salary. The deal also involves an additional, currently unnamed player heading to the Oilers alongside Dickinson. This move comes as teams across the NHL begin to shape their rosters, with Edmonton looking to bolster its forward depth for a deep postseason run.
Dickinson has been a reliable veteran presence for Chicago, known for his defensive accountability and penalty-killing abilities. By retaining half of his salary, the Blackhawks have maximized the return, securing a significant future asset in the 2027 first-round selection. Mangiapane, who was recently acquired by Chicago from Calgary, now moves to his third team in less than a year, bringing a high motor and middle-six scoring potential to the Edmonton lineup.
The 2027 first-round pick included in the deal is reportedly protected, though the specific conditions of the protection have not yet been disclosed. Per LeBrun, the trade involves multiple moving parts as the two teams finalize the paperwork with the league office.
