This update is a brief. We are expanding coverage with additional context and analysis as more details become available.

St. Louis Blues defenseman Colton Parayko has officially declined to waive his no-trade clause to facilitate a trade to the Buffalo Sabres, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. As a veteran with a full no-trade clause, Parayko exercised his contractual right to block the transaction between the two clubs.

The 31-year-old defenseman has been a cornerstone of the Blues' defensive unit since making his debut in 2015. Parayko is currently in the midst of an eight-year contract extension signed in 2021, which includes significant trade protection. Per @FriedgeHNIC, the official decision brings a halt to the current discussions involving a move to Buffalo.

While the Sabres have been actively looking to upgrade their top-four defensive corps, they will now have to pivot to other targets or explore different avenues with the Blues front office. Parayko remains on the St. Louis roster as the team navigates its current season and future roster construction. Friedman noted that it remains to be seen where both organizations go from here following the rejection.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
