Florida Panthers forward Josh Davies and New Jersey Devils forward Juho Lammikko have both been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
The move marks a significant shift for both players as they look to move on from their respective organizations. Josh Davies, a 20-year-old forward, was a sixth-round selection by the Panthers in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. He had been playing with Florida’s AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, after signing his entry-level contract in 2023. His departure suggests a mutual agreement to terminate the deal, often seen when a player intends to pursue professional opportunities outside of North America.
Juho Lammikko, 29, is a veteran of the league who previously spent time with the Panthers and the Vancouver Canucks. After a stint in the Swiss National League with the ZSC Lions, Lammikko returned to the NHL landscape by signing with the New Jersey Devils. The decision to place him on unconditional waivers for termination indicates that his current tenure with the Devils organization has come to an early conclusion.
Per standard NHL procedure, both Davies and Lammikko must remain on the waiver wire for 24 hours. If they clear without being claimed by another NHL club, their contracts will be officially terminated, making them unrestricted free agents. This mechanism is frequently utilized when players and teams agree to part ways so the player can sign in Europe or another international league.
