The Philadelphia Flyers have traded veteran forward Garnet Hathaway to the Florida Panthers, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

As part of the transaction, the Flyers are retaining 50 percent of Hathaway’s $2.4 million cap hit, per @FriedgeHNIC. In addition to Hathaway, Florida receives a 2026 sixth-round draft pick. In return, the Flyers acquire a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick from the Panthers.

Hathaway, 34, has been a staple of the Flyers' bottom-six rotation, known primarily for his physical play and veteran leadership. During the 2025-26 season, he appeared in 66 games, recording three points and leading the team with 252 hits—the ninth most in the NHL. He was also recently named the Flyers' nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy.

This move provides the Panthers with established grit for their fourth line as they continue to bolster their roster for another deep playoff run. For Philadelphia, the trade weaponizes their remaining salary cap retention slots to add future draft assets while opening up a roster spot for younger prospects.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
