Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford announced during his post-lottery media availability that he will step away from day-to-day operations following the conclusion of the upcoming NHL Draft, per Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC).
While Rutherford is relinquishing his daily management responsibilities, he will remain a fixture within the organization. He confirmed that he is set to stay with the Canucks in a reduced capacity, serving as a senior advisor and maintaining his role as an Alternate Governor for the franchise.
The Hall of Fame executive joined Vancouver in late 2021 and has been the primary architect of the team's recent front-office overhaul. By waiting until after the NHL Draft to transition roles, Rutherford will oversee one final major event in the team's offseason calendar before shifting his focus to the advisory position.
The move marks a significant change for the Canucks leadership structure as they head into a pivotal summer. No immediate successor for the day-to-day oversight has been named, though the team's current hockey operations department is expected to absorb his previous duties.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
