The Calgary Flames have traded veteran goaltender Jacob Markstrom to the New Jersey Devils, according to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic.
In exchange for the 34-year-old netminder, the Flames receive defenseman Kevin Bahl and a top-10 protected 2025 first-round draft pick. As part of the transaction, Calgary is reportedly retaining 31.25% of Markstrom’s remaining salary to finalize the deal.
Markstrom, who held a full no-movement clause, reportedly waived it to join New Jersey after months of speculation regarding his future in Calgary. He finished the 2023-24 season with a 23-23-2 record, a 2.78 goals-against average, and a .905 save percentage.
The move addresses a significant need for the Devils, who struggled with inconsistent goaltending throughout the previous season. Markstrom has two years remaining on his current contract with a $6 million cap hit before the retention is applied.
