Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff is exploring ways to alter the team's home routine to mirror their successful road environment, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet (@FriedgeHNIC).
The Sabres have displayed a stark contrast in performance this season, posting a stellar 5-1 record on the road while struggling to a 2-4 record at home. In an effort to alleviate pressure and change the team's mindset, Ruff indicated there is a "90 per cent chance" the team will not practice or hold a morning skate over the next 48 hours.
The decision to skip on-ice sessions is intended to recreate the atmosphere of a road trip, where schedules often differ from the routine of home life. Ruff noted that this tactic was previously used before a Game 6 situation to help the roster relax. By staying away from the rink until game time, the coaching staff hopes to translate their dominant away form to the home ice at KeyBank Center.
