The San Francisco 49ers have signed running back Sincere McCormick to a one-year contract, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. In a corresponding roster move to accommodate the signing, the team has waived running back Jordan Mims.
Sincere McCormick returns to the 49ers organization after previously joining the club as an undrafted free agent out of UTSA in 2022. McCormick's professional career got off to a difficult start when he suffered a season-ending ACL injury during his first rookie minicamp, leading to his placement on injured reserve. During his prolific collegiate career at UTSA, McCormick was a two-time Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year, amassing 3,929 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns over three seasons.
The decision to waive Jordan Mims comes as the 49ers continue to refine their backfield depth behind All-Pro starter Christian McCaffrey. Mims, an undrafted free agent from Fresno State, had been competing for a depth role throughout the early stages of the offseason program. The addition of McCormick provides the 49ers with a familiar face who understands the nuances of Kyle Shanahan's zone-blocking scheme.
As the 49ers move through their offseason schedule, the competition for the remaining spots in the running back room will remain a key storyline. McCormick will look to stay healthy and capitalize on this second opportunity with the franchise.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
