Former NFL head coach Adam Gase is returning to the league after a five-year hiatus to join the Los Angeles Chargers coaching staff, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Gase will serve as an assistant focusing on the passing game for the Chargers. The move marks a return to the sidelines for the veteran coach, who has not held a position in the NFL since his tenure as the head coach of the New York Jets concluded in 2020.
Per @RapSheet, Gase originally rose through the NFL ranks as a "record-setting offensive mind." Before his time with the Jets, Gase served as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2016 to 2018 and held high-profile coordinator positions, most notably leading the Denver Broncos offense during their historic 2013 campaign.
The Chargers are bringing Gase in to bolster an offensive staff looking to maximize their passing attack. This appointment sees Gase returning to his roots as an offensive specialist as he joins the staff in Los Angeles.
