The Cincinnati Bengals scouting department is mourning the loss of a legend as the team announced the passing of veteran executive Bill Tobin, while also confirming the retirement of long-time scout Burt Nettles, per @AdamSchefter.
Bill Tobin, who served as a consultant for the Bengals since 2003, was a titan in NFL front offices for decades. He famously served as the general manager for the Chicago Bears from 1987 to 1992 and the Indianapolis Colts from 1994 to 1996. Tobin, the father of Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin, was 82 years old. His career was highlighted by building the core of the 1985 Bears Super Bowl championship team.
Alongside the news of Tobin’s passing, the Bengals confirmed that veteran scout Burt Nettles has officially retired. Nettles joined the Cincinnati organization in 2007 following a lengthy career that included stops with the Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Rams. Together, the two men represented over a century of combined football experience, marking a significant loss of institutional knowledge for the Bengals franchise.
