John Egorugwu is returning to Buffalo to serve as the team's inside linebackers coach. Egorugwu, who spent the previous season as the inside linebackers coach for the New York Giants, is a familiar face for the organization. He previously worked for the Bills in the same capacity from 2018 through 2020.
In addition to the reunion with Egorugwu, the Bills are hiring Jay Valai as their new cornerbacks coach. Valai makes the transition to the NFL from the collegiate ranks, where he most recently served as the assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator for the Oklahoma Sooners.
These moves represent a significant restructuring of the defensive room under head coach Sean McDermott as the team prepares for the upcoming season. The additions bring a mix of internal familiarity and high-level collegiate experience to the Buffalo secondary and linebacker units.
