The Buffalo Bills have signed former Detroit Lions tight end Shane Zylstra to a one-year contract, according to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN. To make room on the active roster for the addition, the team has officially released kicker Maddux Trujillo.
Shane Zylstra, 27, joins the Bills after spending the last three seasons in Detroit. During his tenure with the Lions, the tight end appeared in 17 games, recording 11 receptions for 60 yards and four touchdowns. His most productive outing came in late 2022, when he caught three touchdowns in a single game against the Carolina Panthers. Zylstra missed the entirety of the 2023 season after suffering a knee injury during training camp but has since been cleared for a return to action.
The release of Maddux Trujillo leaves the Bills with veteran Tyler Bass as the lone kicker on the roster. Trujillo was an undrafted free agent who had recently joined the team for offseason workouts. This roster shuffle comes as Buffalo continues to refine its depth chart ahead of the upcoming training camp, adding veteran experience to a tight end room that features Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid.
