Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix took a significant step forward in his recovery on Thursday, appearing at the team's organized team activities (OTAs) without a walking boot on his right ankle, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Rapoport described the development as a "pretty good sign" for the franchise quarterback, who has been working his way back from a fractured ankle suffered during the postseason. Nix underwent surgery in late January following the injury and recently had a follow-up "cleanup" procedure in April, which had limited his on-field activity during the early stages of the offseason program.
While Nix did not participate in full-speed team drills on Thursday, he was active during the pre-practice walkthrough. Head coach Sean Payton confirmed that the team expects Nix to increase his workload significantly during next week's mandatory minicamp, scheduled for June 16-18. Payton noted that the quarterback has been throwing and is expected to be "completely clean" regarding his mobility once fully cleared.
Nix is entering his third NFL season after being selected 12th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. His recovery is a focal point for the Broncos following a 2025 season that saw the team reach the AFC Championship Game.
