Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Daboll reportedly attempted to dissuade Titans General Manager Mike Borgonzi from selecting quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in last year's NFL Draft, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
At the time of the draft, Daboll was still serving as the head coach of the New York Giants. According to the report, Daboll reached out to Borgonzi to talk him out of the selection. Despite the advice, the Titans moved forward with Ward as the top pick. In a significant turn of events, Daboll has since left New York to take the head coaching job in Tennessee, where he will now be tasked with developing the very player he once questioned as a top pick.
The full interview with Mike Borgonzi, which details the interaction between the two, is set to air tonight on "The Insiders" at the NFL Combine on NFL Network. The revelation adds a layer of intrigue to the upcoming season as Daboll and Ward begin their working relationship in Tennessee.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
