The Los Angeles Chargers have officially hired former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator on Monday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The high-profile addition to Jim Harbaugh’s coaching staff comes as the team looks to elevate the performance of star quarterback Justin Herbert.
McDaniel joins the Chargers after a four-year tenure as the head coach of the Dolphins, where he was celebrated as one of the most innovative offensive tacticians in the NFL. During his time in Miami, his units consistently ranked among the league's best, including a 2023 campaign where the Dolphins led the NFL in both total yards and passing offense.
The move follows the dismissal of former offensive coordinator Greg Roman, who was let go by the organization on January 13, 2026, following a wild-card round loss. While reports last week suggested McDaniel was the primary target for the role, the agreement was finalized and made official this Monday morning.
