Minnesota Vikings defensive passing game coordinator Daronte Jones will interview with the Washington Commanders today for their vacant defensive coordinator position, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Jones has been a key member of the Vikings defensive staff, helping oversee a secondary that showed marked improvement during the 2023 campaign under defensive coordinator Brian Flores. Prior to his current stint in Minnesota, Jones held the defensive coordinator role at LSU in 2021 and previously coached defensive backs for the Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins.
The Commanders, under new head coach Dan Quinn, are moving quickly to finalize their coaching staff for the upcoming season. Jones joins a growing list of candidates being considered to lead the Washington defense as the franchise enters a new era under new leadership. No official hire has been announced at this time as the team continues its search for a top defensive assistant.
