This update is a brief. We are expanding coverage with additional context and analysis as more details become available.

Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was denied parole on Thursday by the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners. The ruling ensures that the former NFL player will remain in custody nearly five years after a fatal car crash in Las Vegas, according to @AdamSchefter.

The decision comes as Ruggs serves a sentence of three to ten years in state prison. In 2023, Ruggs pleaded guilty to one count of felony DUI resulting in death and one count of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. The charges followed a November 2021 incident in which his vehicle, traveling at speeds of up to 156 mph, collided with a car driven by 23-year-old Tina Tintor, resulting in her death.

The Las Vegas Raiders released Ruggs shortly after the crash occurred in 2021. The former first-round pick out of Alabama was once considered a rising star in the league before the incident led to his incarceration. This hearing represented his first opportunity for parole under the terms of his plea agreement and subsequent sentencing.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
