The Detroit Lions and quarterback Jared Goff have officially agreed to a massive four-year, $212 million contract extension, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The record-breaking deal includes $170 million in guaranteed money, per Schefter. The extension officially makes Goff the highest-paid player in Lions franchise history and positions him as the second highest-paid quarterback in the NFL on an annual basis, with an average salary of $53 million per year.

General Manager Brad Holmes recently described an extension for Goff as a "high priority" for the organization. The move comes after Goff led Detroit to a 12-5 record and its first NFC North title in three decades last season. During the 2023 campaign, Goff threw for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, finishing in the top 10 of nearly every major passing category.

The 29-year-old quarterback was originally acquired by Detroit in a 2021 blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Rams. Since arriving in Detroit, Goff has undergone a career resurgence, transforming from a trade centerpiece into the face of a championship-contending roster. This extension follows recent high-profile deals for teammates Amon-Ra St. Brown and Penei Sewell as the Lions move to secure their core talent for the long term.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
