Quarterbacks Fernando Mendoza and Ty Simpson are currently the only two first-round selections from the NFL Draft who remain unsigned, according to @AdamSchefter.
As of Father’s Day and the first day of summer, Mendoza, the No. 1 overall pick, and Simpson, the No. 13 overall pick, are the final holdouts among the top 32 selections. While the rest of the first-round class has finalized their rookie contracts, the two signal-callers have yet to reach official agreements with their respective teams.
The delay comes as NFL teams prepare for the transition into summer schedules and mandatory minicamps. Mendoza enters the league with high expectations as the draft's top selection, while Simpson was taken in the top half of the round to solidify his team's quarterback room. Per league reports, the other 30 players selected in the first round have already moved forward with signed deals.
Contract negotiations for high-ranking draft picks often involve specific details regarding signing bonuses and payment structures. However, both players remain the last pieces of the first-round puzzle to be completed before the league turns its full attention toward training camp in July.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
