Mitchell, 26, originally entered the league as a sixth-round pick for the San Francisco 49ers in 2021. He spent three seasons in San Francisco, where he accumulated 1,523 rushing yards and nine touchdowns across 27 career games. His most productive season came as a rookie, where he led the 49ers in rushing yards. Mitchell joined the Patriots earlier this offseason to provide veteran depth and competition in the backfield.
The release of Mitchell leaves the Patriots with a running back rotation currently headlined by Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson. Mitchell now becomes an unrestricted free agent and is eligible to sign with any team immediately.
