Former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers has officially interviewed for the Buffalo Bills head coaching vacancy, according to @RapSheet of NFL Network.
The meeting marks a major development in the Bills' search for a successor to Sean McDermott, who was dismissed earlier this week following a divisional round playoff loss. In a notable move that highlights the franchise's direction, star quarterback Josh Allen reportedly sat in on the interview to provide input on the team's next leader. Rivers, 44, has spent the last several years coaching high school football at St. Michael Catholic in Alabama, but his elite football IQ has long made him a top target for professional coaching vacancies.
While Rivers previously suggested he would remain in the high school ranks for the 2026 season, the opportunity to lead a perennial contender in Buffalo has reportedly drawn him back to the NFL. Rivers also briefly came out of retirement to play for the Indianapolis Colts late in the 2025 season, maintaining his close ties to the league. The Bills organization is expected to continue its search through the weekend as they move toward naming a new head coach.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
