The Las Vegas Raiders are hiring Mike McCoy to serve as the team’s new assistant head coach, according to a report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
McCoy, 53, brings extensive NFL experience to the Raiders' sideline. He most recently finished the previous season serving as the interim head coach for the Tennessee Titans. His arrival in Las Vegas adds a veteran presence to the coaching staff led by offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.
An established name in coaching circles, McCoy is best known for his four-year tenure as the head coach of the San Diego Chargers from 2013 to 2016. During his time with the Chargers, he amassed a 27-37 record and led the franchise to a playoff victory during his inaugural season. Beyond his head coaching experience, McCoy has held high-level coordinator positions with the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals.
The move signifies the Raiders' commitment to surrounding their primary staff with experienced leadership as they prepare for the upcoming season. McCoy has long been respected for his offensive mind and his history of working with veteran quarterbacks across the league.
