The blockbuster deal comes just hours before the NHL's Olympic roster freeze was set to take effect on Wednesday afternoon. Panarin, who has recorded 57 points in 52 games this season, had been the subject of trade rumors for weeks after the Rangers reportedly informed the 34-year-old that they did not intend to extend his contract beyond this season.
Greentree, a former first-round selection in 2024, is currently the captain of the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL. He joins a Rangers organization that has publicly signaled a "retool" under general manager Chris Drury.
