The New Orleans Saints have added quarterback Zach Wilson to their roster, according to a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The move brings the former high-draft pick to New Orleans as the team looks to bolster its depth at the position.
Wilson, 24, was originally selected by the New York Jets with the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of BYU. Over the course of three seasons in New York, Wilson appeared in 34 games, recording 6,293 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions. His tenure with the Jets was marked by inconsistency, eventually leading to the team seeking a trade partner this offseason.
In New Orleans, Wilson joins a quarterback room currently headlined by veteran starter Derek Carr. The acquisition provides the Saints with a young developmental option and additional competition for the backup role alongside Nathan Peterman and Jake Haener. This move represents a fresh start for Wilson under Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.
