The New Orleans Saints are signing former Miami Dolphins and New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson to a one-year contract, according to a report from Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football.
Wilson, the former No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, finds a new home in New Orleans after a brief tenure with the Dolphins. He was originally traded to Miami from the Jets earlier this offseason but will now join the Saints to provide depth behind veteran starter Derek Carr.
The addition of Wilson gives the Saints a young veteran with significant starting experience. Over his three seasons in the league, Wilson has appeared in 34 games, recording 6,293 passing yards and 23 touchdowns. New Orleans has been active in evaluating their options behind Carr, and Wilson brings a high-pedigree arm to a depth chart that also includes Jake Haener and rookie Spencer Rattler.
Head coach Dennis Allen and the Saints front office have prioritized veteran competition throughout the roster this spring. Wilson will look to revitalize his career in a new environment after struggling with consistency during his time in New York. Financial terms of the one-year agreement have not yet been disclosed by the team.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
