Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders is officially switching his jersey number from 12 to 2 for the 2026 season, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The Browns confirmed the change on Monday, reuniting the second-year passer with the number he made famous during his collegiate career at both Jackson State and Colorado.
Sanders was assigned No. 12 during his 2025 rookie campaign because veteran wide receiver DeAndre Carter occupied No. 2 at the time. With Carter no longer on the Cleveland roster, the number became available for Sanders to reclaim. The switch aligns his professional jersey with his personal "2Legendary" brand, which he maintained throughout his rise to the NFL.
Selected in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Sanders finished his rookie season with 1,400 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions across seven starts. Despite the up-and-down statistics, he earned a selection as a Pro Bowl alternate. Sanders now enters the 2026 offseason in an open competition for the starting quarterback role under new Browns head coach Todd Monken.
