Todd Monken has officially signed his contract to become the next offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The hiring is now "officially official," marking a major addition to the coaching staff under head coach Freddie Kitchens.
Monken arrives in Cleveland after serving as the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Under his guidance, the Buccaneers offense became one of the most explosive units in the league, leading the NFL in passing yards per game and ranking near the top in total yardage. His track record of success with high-powered passing attacks is expected to be a significant asset for the development of young quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Prior to his stint in Tampa Bay, Monken spent three seasons as the head coach at Southern Miss, where he led the Golden Eagles to a 9-5 record and a bowl appearance in his final year. He also brings previous NFL experience from his time as a wide receivers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The addition of Monken completes a key piece of the Browns' coaching puzzle as the franchise looks to build on the momentum of its recent offensive improvements. The team is expected to continue filling out the remainder of the assistant coaching staff in the coming days as they prepare for the upcoming season.
