Former NFL star running back Chris Johnson revealed on Monday that he has been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) at the age of 39. Johnson shared the news during an interview on Good Morning America, according to Adam Schefter.
Johnson, famously known as "CJ2K" for his historic 2,006-yard rushing season in 2009, played 10 seasons in the league, primarily with the Tennessee Titans. A three-time Pro Bowler and former Offensive Player of the Year, Johnson remains one of the most prolific speedsters in the history of the sport, holding the record for the most scrimmage yards in a single season (2,509).
The diagnosis comes as a significant shock to the football community. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to the loss of muscle control. Johnson retired from the NFL following the 2017 season after stints with the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
