The Washington Commanders are signing safety Nick Cross, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network and "The Insiders." The move brings the former Maryland standout back to the DMV area as Washington continues to aggressively address its defensive personnel throughout the offseason.

Cross was originally a third-round selection by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2022 NFL Draft. During his tenure in Indianapolis, the young safety appeared in 33 games, making nine starts. He is coming off a productive 2023 season where he tallied 76 tackles, one interception, and two pass deflections while showing significant growth in his coverage abilities and run support.

The addition of Nick Cross adds significant depth and competition to a Commanders safety room that currently features Jeremy Chinn and Quan Martin. Standing at 6-foot-0 and 212 pounds, Cross brings elite recovery speed and a physical presence that aligns with the defensive philosophy of new head coach Dan Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr.

Contract details, including the length and financial terms of the deal, have not yet been released by the team. This signing represents another step in general manager Adam Peters' plan to revitalize the roster with young, high-upside talent.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
