The Arizona Cardinals have officially found their next leader, hiring Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur as their head coach, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. The two sides are reportedly finalizing a five-year contract to bring the 38-year-old assistant to the desert.
LaFleur becomes the latest and seventh branch of the prolific Sean McVay coaching tree to earn an NFL head coaching job. He joins an elite group of former McVay assistants that includes his brother, Matt LaFleur (Green Bay Packers), Zac Taylor (Cincinnati Bengals), Kevin O’Connell (Minnesota Vikings), and Raheem Morris. The move underscores the league's continued obsession with the McVay offensive system and its ability to produce high-level head coaching candidates.
The hiring comes on the heels of a successful season for the Rams, who reached the NFC Championship game before falling to the Seattle Seahawks. During his tenure under McVay, LaFleur was credited with helping maintain the Rams' status as one of the NFL's most innovative offensive units. In Arizona, he will be tasked with revitalizing a Cardinals roster that struggled through a 3-14 campaign in 2025.
